Because violence persists and gender inequality is evident in Iraq, international agreements seek to achieve balance and ensure that Iraq continues on its path toward sustainable development and remains within the global treaties that guarantee the right to a safe and secure life for all, especially women and girls.
Thirty years after the Beijing Declaration in 1995 in China, the world is gathering today to present a report on each participating country concerned with women’s rights and gender equality. This report is a summary of the progress made in Iraq under the Beijing +30 Platform for Action, following the last report submitted by non-governmental organizations in 2019. Today, we are attempting to monitor the government’s work and the major achievements it has made in achieving gender equality and the goals of the Beijing Platform for Action.
The report also focuses on the challenges facing the government in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and the obstacles preventing the easy achievement of the Beijing Platform for Action goals. It also presents a set of recommendations as future guidance for advancing the status of Iraqi women, achieving equality, and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and the goals of the Beijing Platform for Action. This report is issued by Al-Tayba Relief and Development, a non-governmental organization specializing in women’s and political issues, in partnership with numerous international organizations working locally in Iraq. Many local organizations and government agencies are participating in this report to help accurately determine the progress made in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
