“Women, Business, and the Law 2024 is the tenth in a series of annual studies measuring laws affecting women’s economic opportunities in 190 economies.
This year, it presents two data sets: Women, Business, and the Law 1.0 and an expanded version, Women, Business, and the Law 2.0.
Women, Business, and the Law 1.0 updates its eight-index index built around women’s interactions with the law as they navigate their lives and careers: mobility, workplace, pay, marriage, parenthood, entrepreneurship, assets, and retirement.
Women, Business, and the Law 2.0 introduces a new approach to measuring the implementation gap between laws—de jure—and how they operate in practice—de facto. It analyzes legal and supporting frameworks and expert opinions on the status of women’s rights. Women, Business, and the Law 2.0 introduces two new indicators—safety and childcare—and revises existing indicators. By examining the laws that affect women’s economic decisions, it examines the impact of these laws on women’s economic decisions. Women throughout their working lives, the frameworks supporting the implementation of these laws, and expert views on women’s outcomes, the Women, Business and the Law report continues to gather new evidence on the critical relationship between legal gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
