National Report of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Progress in Implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after 30 Years:
“The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia believes that women are an important component of society’s strength. Therefore, they enjoy firm guarantees in the Kingdom’s policies and regulations. The state is committed to strengthening the status of women in all fields and taking all measures to ensure the protection of their rights. The Basic Law of Governance constitutes the general and fundamental framework that regulates various aspects of political, social, and economic life.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasizes that what has been reviewed in this report represents the most prominent measures and efforts taken to guarantee women’s rights. It continues to aspire to achieve the highest levels of strengthening and protecting women’s rights by enacting the necessary legislation, taking effective implementation measures, and developing programs and plans based on the agreements to which the Kingdom has committed.
This report reviews the most important achievements made over the past five years and the efforts made in the field of women’s empowerment and gender equality, which have resulted from programs and policies aimed at strengthening Human rights in general and their protection, and women’s rights in particular.
This report was prepared by a committee formed within the Family Affairs Council, based on information received from relevant authorities and institutions. A number of government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector, all concerned with women or specific topics related to women, also participated in the preparation of the report, as the report-preparation process requires broad national participation.
